STORYBOARDS
"It's all part of the plan."

SHOT DESIGN
After 20 years of drawing storyboards, it has become a natural part of my film preparation process. Storyboards are a way to plan out a video or film visually beyond a simple shot-list, they allow you to see how the shots relate to each other and progress.
DETAILS
I can either be quick and rough to get some thumbnail sketches of a scene progression or I can take much more time and add color and contrast. There are different degrees of "resolution" that can be done for storyboards to illustrate different details from simple framing, camera movement, mood, color, and even lighting details.

RESULTS
You can see in this side-by-side video how crucial the storyboards were to help keep the vision of this ad on track to the final product. This was a case where it was essential to know how shots related to each other in order to fit in the 2D animation elements. *Note: the client wanted the addition of a dog last minute, so the dog shots were improvised on set.
